Streets with Existing Green Space
Some of South Woodford’s residential streets already feature planting and greenery within the public realm. However, these small pockets of greenspace can be disconnected and compromised by cars crossing the pavement to access garages and parking in front gardens.
This street typology could be improved by:
- 5.1 Enhancing the biodiversity of existing planting, especially grassed areas, to consider seasonal flowering, appeal to microfauna and permaculture principles.
- 5.2 Planting additional street trees of diverse species.
- 5.3 Discouraging cars crossing the pedestrian pavement wherever feasible.
- 5.4 Extending and connect existing green spaces to create continuous planted environments wherever possible.
- 5.5 Introducing seating and wayfinding along green routes to improve accessibility.
- 5.6 Prioritising pedestrian traffic along key green routes, including raised tables at junctions.
- 5.7 Introducing rain gardens with biodiverse planting in positions of existing gulleys.
